Once you have a domain registered, the next thing is put it on a server that will "serve" the site to the world.
The yearly charge for this is for a piece of hard drive that is specifically designed to display your site when someone asks for it.
My hosting provides all the techie stuff
(a lot of acronyms such as ASP, PHP, MySQL, FTP, etc.
that makes no sense unless you speak the language)
